Cuvée…

….is a French wine term and it’s used to denote a specific blend.

The experienced winemakers use different batches of wine and mix them together before bottling, in order to achieve the desired taste. These adjustments can be as simple as adjusting acid or tannin levels, to as complex as blending different varieties or vintages so you can achieve a consistent taste.

My grandfathers’ specialty is to blend different vintages…

Vintage is the year when the grape is harvested, and it determines if the wine will meet your expectations or not…

I wonder – is it the same in life?

There are some years that are crucial for us…We say our first words, take our first steps, we start school, fall in love, we graduate, find the first job and we find true friendships…

But then – there are also many years in which we drift, without a clue of who we are, where we are headed and how to find our way out of dead-end streets we get lost in.

That’s the law of nature; I would say-good and bad comes in cyclical turns…

Like in vineyards – sometimes we excerpt great effort to end up with average gains and sometimes the magnificent years come out of nowhere…

The key is to use the best of it and blend it!

When my grandfather Budimir saw my grandmother Vera – he said he knew they would grow old together.

SIMPLE AS THAT.

They went through war, hard times, they worked tremendously to build a home, to raise a family and to make good wine over the years.

It couldn’t all be good and easy? But they made it.

They just celebrated 56 years of marriage. RESPECT…

And after all – they end up together, with 2 children, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, a home full of love where we all gather from different sides to drink the wine of hard work and devotion.

This vintage blending – in wine as well as in life is what makes my grandfather a GOOD winemaker and most importantly – a GREAT MAN!

Cheers to that…
